Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has clarified his postgame exchange with Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams, which went viral on social media.
Stroud advised Williams to “stop taking those hits” after the Bears’ 19-13 loss to the Texans, in which Williams was sacked seven times.
The Texans quarterback also offered words of encouragement, telling Williams he would be a “hell of a player” in the NFL.
Stroud emphasized that he wasn’t trying to demean or lecture Williams, but rather offer advice from one player to another.

“I have a ton of respect for him,” Stroud said on Wednesday. “I had so many guys coming to me after games last year, and that meant the world to me that those guys even thought about giving me advice.”
Williams has struggled in his first two NFL games, completing 56.1% of his passes for 267 yards with two interceptions and no touchdown passes.
Despite the tough start, Stroud believes Williams has a bright future ahead. “I totally understand [his frustration],” Stroud said. “So, I have a ton of respect for that guy, man.”
